Last night when I opened my laptop the screen flickered violently and then the backlight turned off! I plugged it in to the wall and it seemed to fix it but then this morning with it plugged in it flickered violently and went half and half, i wiggled the screen around and now its stable. Any ideas on why this would happen, i believe im still within warranty for another month or so. Not sure if it matters but i have the 1680x1050 screen.

It's probably the LCD inverter, assuming that it was just the backlight flickering and that the display itself was not distorted. It could also be a loose cable. The CCFL backlight could be going bad but usually you'll see a pinkish glow when that happens. Since you're within your warranty, if you can consistently reproduce the behavior I'd back up your data and let HP deal with it.
