My screen will go totally black and I cannot see anything but can hear movie or whatever happened to be on at the time it goes black. the only way to correct the problem is to either reboot the laptop or take the battery pack out

    Can anyone help me

Does that happen in BIOS too. It would rule out software issues in OS.

Use a flaslight or take screen near any other light source. Can you see the sceen then? If you do, then your backlight doesn't work.

Common reasons for that are either broken LCD/inverter cable or broken inverter. Rather replace them both at once, not worth the trouble to replace one first and then order second one and open the laptop again.

If screen is all black and light doesn't work, test external monitor. If it works, try to replace LCD cable.
