    Hi all,

I am having problem with screen on HP ze4560us. Recently i had problem with HDD , so i replace HDD with another which my friend gave me, he also had HP. On beginning I had problem with formatting HDD , during the unsuccessful formatting notebook just froze so i had to powered by holding power on/off button for several seconds. Following morning when I powered on screen did not respond. I tried with external monitor that way working fine. So using the external monitor i install windows xp. Now when I am switching in-between screens notebook screen is just blue , but its not "blue screen of death with error massage" .Blue color is the same like the one on the startup of the windows xp where you have options to log in as a administrator or another user.
Another strange thing is that is my external display recognized as a primary and notebook screen as a secondary. I n the settings option when I move over the icon of the second screen(notebook screen) i am showing resolution 640, 0 .

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated?

    Thanks

It sounds like something caused a major failure in your machine that got the HDD and display. Are you under warranty still?

Depending on the type of graphics drivers used, it may have swapped your displays. Since you installed the OS using the external monitor, it'll by default use the external monitor as your primary monitor and your LCD as the secondary. You might be able to make some change in the Display Properties and make the LCD your primary or even goto Safe Mode and get it working that way. Make sure you don't have your external monitor connected at the time.

The LCD screen might be blue because it's using it as an "Extended Desktop". The ATI card in my nx8220 has the feature to extended the desktop to span 2 monitors. This may be a similar case with you.

    - Under the Display Properties -> Settings tab, it allows you to change your monitor (don't goto the Advanced Settings).
    - You'll see 2 boxes with the numbers 1 & 2. Just click on the 2 box and it'll switch to that monitors settings.
    - At the bottom of the window, you should have 2 boxes, Use this device as primary monitor and extended my desktop onto this monitor.
    - Uncheck extended desktop box and check Use as Primary monitor.

I don't know if this will work, but it's worth a try.

    Good luck!
