I apologize if I'm on the wrong forum here. This is my first post. I'm having a problem with the screen on my HP dv9000 notebook. There's a series of small black lines running down the right side of my screen. It actually appears to be getting worse. I'm trying to avoid sending it back to HP because I'm worried they're going to wipe out all my data, even if I ask them not to. We just got a dual-boot installed, so I'd rather not have to do that again. Is there any way it might not be a hardware problem?

Plug in an external monitor. If you see the same black lines, your NVIDIA graphics chip is failing and the motherboard needs to be replaced. Plan on your data being wiped and being without your notebook for a month.

If you never flashed in one of the newer BIOS revisions that runs the fan 24x7 you're lucky your notebook has lasted this long. HP didn't get the word out well at all. I updated my dv9000z in January.
