    Hey guys...

My girlfriend is getting ready to purchase a dv6t for college, but she can't justify spending an extra $150 on the 1920x1080 resolution. I was wondering will the 1920x1080 be a huge difference or is the 1366x768 good enough. Thanks!

Depends on what she's going to do. I had it and imo, it's definitely worth it. It is a pretty big difference, because not only does the screen have 2x the pixels, the panel itself is higher quality and has better contrast, colors, etc.

Yes, it's a huge difference. The resolution is obviously much larger, but more importantly, it has better contrast and it's matte rather than glossy. I went back to my old laptop for a couple of days and it's amazing how much difference the latter makes. I guess I learned to tune them out, but the lack of reflections is really, really obvious.

1080p is worth it. Especially if there is a 30% coupon involved - it's only about $100 or $105 at that point.

Matte is better than glossy. I had an old dv6000 and the matte in my new dv6zqe is a lot better.

Is she techie? If not, lower res. might be better since a lot of non-techie people would say the fonts are too small. Everything is small and they max. each and single window they open to make things "bigger". In that case, they just wasted $150. I am not joking...it is the truth since I deal with a lot of those people!

I've been mulling over the 1366x768 vs 1920x1080 question myself. My concern is that I mostly want to game and the 6770M might not give me good enough frame rates at 1080p so I might need to scale back to 1366x768 but is it going to look fuzzy at that resolution? I've seen pretty horrible scaling on older monitors but folks have told me that this 1080p panel scales pretty well.

Ahh, I'm going to show her this thread and see if it'll change her mind ;D.

Anyways, she's going to be doing light gaming on this laptop...like LoL, Maplestory, Dragon Nest, and just general browsing/school stuff.

Im finding the 1366 by 768 fine for me. The font and everything is nice and big, and easy on the eyes. I think the colors are still pretty good. And i dont find the low resoulition a problem at all.

The only knocks I have on the screen are its vertical viewing angles. When you work you have to set the screen before you begin. And a little up will make things super bright, and a little down will make things pretty dark. So thats really my only knock on the screen.

Also the glossy screen does have reflections. However you can easily just ajust your laptop to wherever theres no reflections on it. Then it works perfectly.

Other than that I find this screen perfect

    I'm going from a glossy 1440x900 laptop.

I guess I have no business going 1366x768, right?

Quick question, is there any difference between the regular dv6t and the dv6t select?

Other than the name, no. DV6t and DV6tse use the same chassis and components, but some options available on the DV6tse might not be available on the DV6t.
