    I just wonder, have anyone every sucessfully upgraded their screen on dv5 series laptop?

    You need LCD cable with all pins connected and new panel. Part numbers for those you'll find in the Service and Maintenance Manual for your notebook.

    As far as I know dv5 was sold with 1680x1050 panel somewhere, therefore suitable parts should be available.
