    Hey everyone,
My freind bought a HP ZD8000 for cheap that will power on and run perfectly, however the screen is completely out with no sign of light from it at all. Is it worth trying to fix and what would be the cause of the problem? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Most likely the cold cathode backlight is burnt out. These can be found fairly easy on ebay.

The voltage regulator could also be bad, but its most likely the backlight itself.

If you can find the backlight (and possibly voltage inverter/regulator board) for less than $100 it may be worth it.

Did you try plugging in external monitor? If it works, then it is the backlight, if not, then the GPU may be fried.

Ok, thank you guys for your help. I will tell him to try plugging in an external monitor. In the event it's the background light, is a new light hard to install?
