I used a small jewelers phillips screw driver.

I have a set of 5 jeweler's screwdrivers I got at the dollar store..... for a dollar :D
One of them has always worked when removing screws from my notebook.

Any small phillips can remove/install the screws on a HDD mounting bracket.

Use vice grips (small size) on the screw heads to loosen the screws. The heads protrude just enough to get a small bite on them. Mine were so tight that no philips screwdriver would even turn without stipping.

At least with my dv9650us, I've confirmed that Wiha's #1 is a perfect fit for both the access panel screws and the hard drive itself. Item #26110 is what I've got.

A cheaper option is this Husky precision screwdriver set:
    http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100074336
They got a mention on Tekzilla the day I happened to be looking for a precision Torx screwdriver set:
    http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...Id=10053&productId=100087664&N=10000003+90072
So I bought both and I like 'em. The tips are nice and sharp, they don't strip screw heads easily so long as you use the right size.

I'm pretty sure you need a #0 Phillips. That's what I usually use.

    I GOT THEM OUT

It took myself (200lb athletic guy) and a bud (230lb construction worker) to get them out. It took about half an hour of working them to get them anywhere. I turned it with all of my strength while he hit the top of the screwdriver with a hammer.
