Hi Guys, I'm new here and feel bad for making my first couple posts "needy" ones, but this is really getting to me now. For some reason I can't get the built in SD/MMC Reader to read SD cards on my HP 6910p w/ Win XP Pro. It makes the hardware connected sound and immediately after a disconnected sound whenever I put in an SD card. I have updated the drivers from HP's website, used my warranty service and techs came out to replace the motherboard and SD/MMC slot, but still no luck. I have tried to use the drivers off the link below as well and it actually updated the old driver a poster mentioned in the thread, but still no frickin luck. I'm running out of ideas here.

I did notice a new drive would show up under device manager for a split second when I put an SD card in, but disappears quick. Any help or ideas are appreciated. Now HP wants me to send the notebook to Paulsboro, NJ, but I'm hesitant to do so

Have you tried doing a fresh install?

My guess is your drive letters may be conflicting or some programs/service you have is causing a conflict.

Do you know what brand card reader it is?

Check the device manager. I myself have a ricoh card reader

    It should be a Ricoh.

I believe it is a ricoh. And from the link below (from the thread provided above) I had an old SD driver, but once I updated, it placed the device under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in the device manager. And now I have 2 in the list. Once says "Ricoh SD Host Controller" and the other says "Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller". I already have tried to uninstall both of them, but they both auto reinstall.

What exact brand and specific type of card are you reading? Is it one of the newer SDHC (or whatever it is called)?

I have tried multiple brands and multiple storage size SD cards with no luck
