On the right side of my HDX 18 I have a sealed cutout with a TV icon next to it. Is that where the pin plug for cable tv and external antenna is suppose to go? Does anyone have that configuration, or does everyone have to purchase the plug?

There's an extension cable you plug in and at the end of that cable, there's the cable coax, etc...

You need to have had the TV Tuner option installed when you bought the laptop configured to have it open and be able to use it.

it would probably be cheaper and easier to buy a USB tuner.

Oh absolutely it would be much cheaper. Although not as sleek. Still, you'd have to give up a USB port. So as long as the remaining 3 is enough, you're good.

You can install one but it has to be the one HP uses, plus you'll have to almost completely disassemble your computer to put it in.

Or you can buy the pci express version...won't use up a USB port. I hear it gets really hot though. I'm not sure if HP sells it either, but i've seen it on their site. Maybe newegg.com?

Yuan EC300 expresscard dvb-t tuner DOES NOT work with Windows 7 at this moment. This is the card HP used to sell under it's own brand as "HP Expresscard DVB-T TV Tuner".

I'm hoping for new drivers to be released, I want my own card working soon :)

Win7 Media Center produces bluescreens when searching for channels. This is a known issue I found out when searching for solution.

I haven't yet had time to test any 3rd party dvb software if it would crash too but I'll update this info if I can make it work.

edit: ProgDVB and SesamTV tested, neither works. ProgDVB just doesnt find channels and SesamTV freezes when searching.

Bummer, let's hope HP comes out with updated drivers soon. I'm sure a lot of people are waiting on them to release Windows 7 drivers for older model laptops as well.

If you're ExpressCard slot is free, I found two ExpressCard TV Tuners that completely hide inside your Expresscard slot (given that the ExpressCard slot in your laptop is the standard 75mm in length) so that it rests flush along the side of your laptop.

    ExpressCard/54:

    ExpressCard/34:

I have the 34mm version, and it works with Media Center in Vista and Windows 7. However, HP's MediaSmart TV software won't recognize it. The device itself does get VERY HOT over time, and I don't know what the effects are with prolonged use, but I have had it running for at least several hours without any issues other than having paranoia over my laptop melting. Other than that, it works very well. It also comes with a 54mm slot adapter so you can use it in ExpressCard/54 slots.

Just a few pics I took earlier of the 34mm version:
