I have been reading up on some consumer reviews of the HP brand in general. I know I can't compare this line because it is brand new and is a more expensive model, but these are all very valuable parts going in as some people say, "a shoddy plastic brick." I need to know if thats the case with the Dv6t, and if this laptop will last me (gaming wise) for the next few years. I've been waiting for mine to come in but I'm just worried I'm not getting a quality built laptop that I thought I ordered because quite frankly, a lot of HP laptops just are plain terrible.

Don't mean to offend anyone, just worried. Is this a good laptop that will last or something that will start having problems within a year?

I wouldn't feel bad, I was thinking the same thing.

Some people are very pleased with their HPs and some have issues. The common thread seems to be that you really don't want to contact their support, because it's at this point that you start to feel the difference between a high end or business laptop vs. a consumer laptop.

Consumer laptops like this (especially with a 33% coupon!) are sold with a very small margin for profit, so the support is sometimes lacking.

The Envy is a nice line, and this new model reminds me of them. Not enough reviews to really answer your questions about longevity, but with prices like these I guess you kind of roll the dice! For $850 for the hardware I got, I'll give HP another try. (Although I'm trying to convince them to send me the quick ship model instead of my custom build.) :)

All laptops of the same circa and price have aproximately the same build quality. Can a model be a lemon? Sure, but no more likely HP than Gateway, Dell, ....
