    Hey there!
I am purchasing a notebook for my wife...just for the basic uses...it will sit in the kitchen...she listens to streaming internet radio, MP3/CD music,internet,e-mail,mobile WiFi around the house. I am considering the Presario v2000z, and had a question about choosing the processor:

    http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/sh..._components.do

It comes w/ the AMD Sempron(TM) 3000+ (1.8GHz/128KB L2 Cache), but you can upgrade to the following:
    AMD Sempron(TM) 3300+ (2.0GHz/128KB L2 Cache)
    +$15.00
    AMD Turion(TM) 64 ML-32 (1.8GHz/512KB L2 Cache)
    +$45.00
    AMD Turion(TM) 64 ML-34 (1.8GHz/1MB L2 Cache)
    +$70.00
    AMD Turion(TM) 64 ML-37 (2.0GHz/1MB L2 Cache)
    +$95.00

My current upgrades to the basic unit are to a 60GB 5400RPM HD and to a CD burner. For basic purposes do I need to upgrade the processor?? Maybe just to the basic Turion? Not at all?
It comes w/ 256 RAM and I was going to upgrade that , but was considering doing it aftermarket? Is that a better deal?
    Thanks,
    Trapper

For basic uses the base Sempron processor should be fine. One thing to consider is if you want to upgrade to Windows Vista and utilize the 64-bit capabilities when it comes out you will need the Turion as the Sempron is not 64-bit compatible. If this is not an issue the Sempron should be fine. Also, I would agree that you should upgrade memory with aftermarket RAM as it will be less expensive.

Since price difference is not much ( as it was more than $100 diff before ) I would go with ML-32. It keeps the options open for you with 64Bit support and little more future proof.

Even when you try to sell it, Turion sells faster than semprons.

As far capability is concern, any of those processors should be fine.
