My nc8430 laptop power unit has completely broken, the part where you put the charger into has snapped and so the battery wouldn't charge.

It is still under warranty so I sent it back today, does anyone know how long this will take to fix?

    Thanks

This is a known issue with their laptops ... my brother has had to solder one back on to his laptop (he had 3 HP laptops). If you go to Wikipedia, this is one of the 3 major complaints. Maybe you can just e-mail HP and quote that - they'll shut up pretty quick and just take it in for repair regardless of warranty. Be fussy - those outsourced workers are easy to push around. Lol.

Just curious, did the power jack inside the laptop break apart or did the power brick die?

I've never heard of the power jack in the nc8430/nw8440 failing, but the power brick is a notorious failure item. In fact, after nearly 17 months of ownership, I'm already on my 6th power adapter for my nw8440.

The weak spot is where the fixed wire going to the PC first comes out of the brick. If wiggling that area revives it, it's definitely your power brick, which HP should be able to cover under warranty without having to send you laptop in. In fact, it's a good idea to keep an extra one on hand, considering how failure-prone they are.
