Include a note with the PC and take pictures before you send it in to verify the condition you sent it.

I'll second that. Though I did not have an issue arise when i sent my old dv2000 in for service, it did happen when I sent in my (ex-) wife's macbook pro for service. When it came back the aluminum case around the optical drive was bent.

I got on the phone with Applecare, and after describing the damage, I said "would you like me to email you before and after pics, as I took some before sending it in?" The service rep's response was "yes, that'll make my job easier". Less than 5 minutes later I had an apology for the damage and Apple picking up the tab for fedex shipping both ways and replacing the case.

Moral of the story - having documentation can save you a lot of hassle if something happens.

Agreed!! Although I personally never had an issue; there have been too many reports of damaged notebooks.

Just make sure you include a newspaper with the current date in the 'before' pix and/or have the time/date stamp on the camera turned on.

That CS rep is full of s*** I've talked to 3 Case Managers (I hate all of them) but they at least informed me you're obligated to keep your HDD if you choose to do so.

Yeah, tip: Don't send it in. It will most likely come back to you in a more craped-out condition - That is unless you're un-anal about the way your notebook looks -> To some people, they don't notice it because a notebook to them, is just another notebook.
