    Hello everyone

My DV7 1153-ca has started to overheat lately I have no idea why... especially on my left side (where is the graphic card) I have contacted HP and they told me to factory reset the laptop before sending it in(because i have windows 7 installed).

But I have deleted my partition and they gave me a link to buy a recovery disk. ITS FRIGGEN 45$. I am never going to get ripped off like that... So what I have thought is to install the original OS which was vista home premium 64x and download all the HP crap and install it before sending it in. Do you think it'll work?

    No.

Just make sure you make a full backup of your system before sending it.
If they reset your laptop to factory defaults, for example put Vista back on it, you can just overwrite it with the backup you made and you got all your (old) data back again.

Just ask them to let you keep the hard drive when you send it in. Tell them you have "important work data" and that you know that the problem is not software based. Once you say this they will most likely let you take the hard drives out when you send it in (ive done it 4 times this way)

I don't know why you were told to buy a set of recovery discs if you're going to send your laptop in for service anyway. They will do the factory reset themselves once they get it (its part of the disclaimer they read you when you go for a repair service). Just send it in and they'll take care of it. It will be back to vista once you get it back.

Did you not burn recovery disk's when you first bought your laptop?
