Ok I've about had it for the past 5 days; I've been trying to install Realtek HD Audio drivers on my DV6500T running Windows XP. I'm looking for drivers that enable me to use microphone output.

Ok ever since I uninstalled the newest drivers (Didn't allow microphone output) my computer hasn't been able to install ANY Realtek HD Audio Drivers correctly.

This is what I've been doing:

Uninstall all current realtek drivers. I also run driver sweeper just to be more thorough.

Then I restart my computer and reinstall the Realtek HD Audio Drivers. Then I restart a 2nd time.

Ok now when my computer loads back up, it tells me it has found a new device blah blah blah. And I hit find drivers automaticly. And this is where it goes haywire. It will ask me for certain missing files every few seconds despite me installing the drivers before hand. And I don't have any of the files it lists. So I just hit cancel and here I am with no sound... It's like and endless loop no matter what I've tried.

Can someone PLEASE help me? 5 days of trying to get my sound working and It's driving me mad...

this is one of those times when you just need to say no to windows. the problem is because windows tries to install a driver that doesn't work. don't let it.

uninstall the audio driver. reboot. it will ask you to install. SAY NO. install the realtek audio driver. if windows asks about any driver during the process, SAY NO AGAIN. i went through the same thing with my sager. annoying. i just made sure whenever windows askes about any hardware, i canceled out of it, and took care of the realtek driver myself. good luck. i know how frustrating this problem is!

remember- if windows finds a new device, just say no. lol. let me know how you get on.

yep, exactly what i did to install windows xp pro and drivers on my dv9700. tested it all, then deleted it and put vista right back on...lol no real performance gains using xp pro and all my games seem to run fine under vista.
