Is this a real problem? And what exactly is the problem? I played WoW raiding for 3 hours on my DV5T and it didnt explode or anything.
What are these heating issues and what will they do negatively?
I don't care if my laptop is hot it is on a desk not my lap. But will this destroy my laptop or something?
Also what ways do I fight this problem? How serious is it?

The only heating problem for me is that the palmrest gets warm after a while. I don't like warm palmrests.

It wears away your laptop faster and overheating shuts the laptop down.
-
Any way to combat this? -
Xythil,
When im playing crysis i just get a spare dvd case or similar and prop up the back of the laptop so the fan has more breathing room, the dv5 runs several degrees cooler, and has never overheated, even after hours of gameplay.
If your concerned about overheating, download some monitoring software, and compare the difference. Some day's i will get up to 10 c cooler temp just by giving the vents that extra breathing space. -
Thanks Imperium.
This guy named Gilderoylockheart is running around saying DV5T is not gaming machine and can't run Crysis
How well does it play on your system if you don't mind me asking? -
I play can play crysis smoothly with all settings on medium @ 1280x800 res.
It looks and plays perfectly fine to me. But if try high quality, its pretty slow. -
Ya... to be expected.
Ant experiance with Far Cry 2? -
Look at your other threads, most of the people agree with Gilderoy's opinion. And now, are you going to list their names ?? -
I seemed to have gotten a good one because my temps never hit the 70's. The highest temp I've gotten is around the mid 60's when gaming for a while. Then again it's only WoW with medium settings but for now I'm not planning to play anything more spec intensive.
The only thing I'm doing to keep it cool is have it running without the battery and have it proped up on some DVD covers to keep the vents clear.
I'm still thinking of investing in a cooler though later.
This isn't the best laptop to use on your lap... I've only done that a few times with something to keep it on like a book, and even that gets hot so I just keep it to desk use.
It gets a little hotter than expected with a laptop but it's not a huge problem if you know how to deal with it and the temps don't get too high. -
Without the battery? please explain
-
Well you can use your laptop without the battery if you're only using it on the mains anyway.
All you do is run the battery down to around 10-15% power, swtich off the laptop, take the battery out and store it somewhere cool, then power back on using just the adapter.
Doing that means your laptop is a little cooler and lighter but it also ups the risk of data loss if there is a power-out or you accidentally pull out the adapter.

It was good for me since I never use it, I travel with my laptop twice a week so it's lighter and best of all my temps dropped when gaming.
The only issue I found is it's a bit uncomfortable when using it on your lap because there's a gaping hole there, but nowadays I just use it on a book cover or just on the desk anyway. So the only concern I have is if I ever accidentally pull the plug. -
allfiredup Notebook Virtuoso
The nVIDIA 9600M GT generates a lot of heat. Raising the rear edge of the notebook by a half-inch or more seems to be one of the best solutions. The optional 12-cell battery, if it's similar in shape and size to the 12-cell from the dv6700t, will raise the rear edge automatically. By creating additional airflow under and around the casing of the system, heat will dissipate much more easily and quickly.
Other options are notebook "stands" that improve the airflow in much the same way as raising the edge. More aggressive solutions are notebook coolers with one or two fans that actively channel air away from the system. I have an older Toshiba that runs hotter than I prefer and an Antec notebook, cooler keeps it quite a bit cooler. -

And my alienware is 4 years old with a 9700 Radeon Mobility, and the backlight went out. -
let me ask you this Xythil. Why would you go ahead and purchase this laptop, without asking these types of questions before the purchase?? they seem to be a serious subject for you to not want to know beforehand.
-
pay attention,, i did NOT say it DIDN'T run, i SAID, IT RAN LIKE C R A P !! -
Ya ofcourse is ran like crap. You bought a cruddy video card.
Comparing the 9200m to a 9600m is like comparing a junker to a brand new car. Is it my fault you bought a terrible card?
Serious question about HP DV5T Heating issues.. are they major?
