Does hp's 30 day price difference guarantee include coupon codes, I recently purchased a dv6500t with there 20% discount code, and now they have lowered the price on some of there options, and they just released a 30% discount code.
Also could someone give me a link to this policy on there website.
Thanks

i very highly doubt it for coupons. i cannot find a policy page, sorry. maybe someone else can
-
Within 21 days, HP will refund the difference between the cost that you can obtain the computer today, to the cost of that computer when you bought it, including all applicable discounts. This is because you could just return the laptop and rebuy it, and it would be a stupid move on the behalf of HP for you to do that as they are stuck with shipping, and now have to sell a refurbed laptop. Between the 21-30 days, it depends on the CSR that you get.
-
I just spent about an hour on the phone with these d***n people, after talking to three different people they would not give me the difference, they said that coupons do not apply to there policy. They wouldn't even give me the difference of the 20% coupon I used to start with.
-
Is it within 21 days? If so, call up and tell them you want to return it. When they ask why, mention the price difference. I almost guarantee they'll give you the price difference rather than have you return the laptop.
-
oh no!! i ordered my dv9500 with the 20% coupon 3 days ago
but now there's the 30% off coupon...
if anyone finds a link to their site where it states that we can claim our money back even with coupons PLEASE do provide it!!
i hope there's a way...
Alex -
Lithus is exactly right. If you are within the 21 days, call them up. If they won't do it, then return the laptop and buy it again.

i just called hp and spoke with a representative and then she transfered me to a supervisor basically what they explained or at least tried to is that when you make a purchase, the order # is stuck to the coupon u used at the time and CANNOT be changed...
the only way they say i can get my money back is to either cancel the order and wait for them to place the money back in my account (apparently 3-5 business days) once i have my money back place the second order and use the new coupon. or just wait for the computer to arrive and send it back for a coupon, again waiting for the money to be back in the bank and place a new order with the new coupon.
this is what i found on their site:
"The HP Home & Home Office Store reserves the right to change prices at any time. Should we lower the price of the product you purchased, you may call 1 (888) 999-4747 within 30 days of your order date to request a credit for the difference between the price you paid and the current the HP Home & Home Office Store selling price. This excludes mail-in rebates, which are not part of this price protection."
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/terms.do
my thoughts: i really want to do this but i think this might be kind of risky, i'll explain why. If for some reason the coupon expires before the money is back in the bank i will end up loosing moneyi really dont know what to do on this one... i wish this could be done without cancelling my order and waiting patiently for the money to be back in the bank.
what are you thoughts?
Alex -
if anyone manages to work this out PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post the info of the representative (maybe name and ext #) that helped you out so we can go ahead and call them up.
thanks
Alex -
Well, if HP's going to be stupid about it, let them take the shipping and refurb hit. It's going to cost them much more for you to reorder than to credit you some money back. Make sure to explain that to the CSR.
If they still won't budge, decide what's more important: the price difference, or the delay in getting another laptop. -
-
It's quite simple though. Cancel your first order and you'll get your money back for sure. Right? Use your credit card to buy the second one using the 30% coupon without waiting for money getting back in your account. By doing that, I think you'll get your new laptop and the money back roughly at the same time. Just my thought!
-
I agree with Richie281. As long as you are within HP's policy, there is no risk. Cancel your order, buy the second laptop, then wait to get your money back.

I just called and reordered a dv2500t. My old total was $956 for:
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T5250 (1.5 GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB)
- 14.1" WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
- 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
- 319MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
- HP Imprint Finish (Radiance) + Webcam + Microphone
- Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection and Bluetooth(TM)
- FREE Upgrade to 160GB 5400RPM from 120GB 5400RPM!!
- SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
- No TV Tuner w/remote control
- High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- Microsoft(R) Works 8.0
My new total is $845 for the same laptop. I just have to send the 1st dv2500t back when it is shipped. It is worth the $111 difference to wait another week or so to get the laptop. -
This is ridiculous and heres why:
I originally ordered my dv9500t on August 27 and two days later the 2.4Ghz processor came out. I called and told them to cancel the order so I could reorder it with the better processor and they wouldn't because the order was already sent to the factory and couldn't be canceled. I told them I would just be mailing it back to them for a refund when I received it and they said ok. Anyways, I just got the laptop last Wednesday, called them and they refunded my HP card instantly and I ordered my new dv9500t with the 20% coupon. Now this 30% coupon is out and I'm irritated because I really don't want to wait another 2-3 weeks for my laptop, but $200 is a considerable savings (It would pay for my 4GB of RAM I just bought). This really sucksbecause if I decide to save the money it would be my second time returning a laptop in a one month period that I haven't even gotten to use.
-
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! I just called HP and placed an order for a new notebook and am returning the notebook! THANKS!!!
-
unfortunately i dont have access to a credit card... all i have is a debit card
so i cant just cancel and reorder, i have to wait for the money to be refunded to place a new order. Has anyone been able to get some money out of them through the phone?
i hate to think i cant save an extra $200 (like envision said the 4gb of ram would be covered)...
Alex -
^I tried... But they wouldn't refund it until they got the notebook back.
So I ended up paying for both notebooks, but I'll get one refunded as soon as they get their old NB back - I'm gonna send it as soon as it arrives on my doorsteps. -
That really does suck that they won't refund the additional coupon after you order. After thinking about it I decided to give HP a call when I receive my 2nd new laptop, return it, and reorder with the 30% off coupon. I figured that I have my desktop and my work laptop so I can hold off on my toy because $200 is a big savings that I'm willing to wait for.
Also, check my last post inside of Student Discount and Coupons thread, it will describe how to save a little more money on the warranty. -
im thinking of canceling my order that is "in production"to take advantage of the 30% off coupon... how fast should i get my money back? has anyone had any experience with this? do i need to have any specific reason to cancel the order? are there any fees?
-
Thats what I just did, its worth the extra savings to wait a few days. Plus the first order I got the 12 cell, but decided I needed the 6 cell and 12 cell. Called to add to order, but they wouldn't and were going to charge me $129 for a 6 cell alone! Yeah no thanks! Great deal! Got the dual battery and saved some $$ !
-
Well anyways, as soon as I get my laptop in and call them in regards to the 30% off coupon and refunding me I will let everyone know how it went. -
I wonder if the "higher ups" know how much this 30% coupon is costing them with all the ship backs and new shipments of recently purchased laptops. Not to mention what are they going to do with all these specially configured laptops that will be returned. Not really good for the bottom line when you can't override a computer code that could potentially save your business a lot of money! -
so so i gave up... i called them up to cancel the order but no luck, apparently once its in production it cannot be canceled, it MUST be shipped!
Since i dont have extra funds in my debit card and i dont have any credit cards i can use i guess ill have to receive my laptop and keep it unless i find a way to get the extra money to place a new order until i get my money back from the first which will probably be after the 22 (when the coupon expires) since the order was placed on the 8th and the est ship date was the 18th.
hp is so dumb.. why would they waste money on shipping that way and why would they miss the chance of canceling an order so they dont have to keep a refurb machine.. just sad.. if anyone from hp is reading this pass it along to your superiors, HP OPEN YOUR EYES!
Alex -
Okay, I just called to cancel my order. I didn't ask for the new discount. When I was asked why I wanted to cancel, I explained that I used a 20% coupon when I ordered and now there's a 30%. They put me on hold and came back and said, " If we gave you the difference, would that make you happy? " Humm, let me think? $173.30 more off? Yepppp! That totals $519.90 off my original build.
However, the supervisor says that the new coupon for 30% is being pulled. It was for only the first 300 people or something like that?
Good luck -
This may not apply to coupon discounts but Sunday ( 9/9/07 ) I ordered the HP dv6000z there was supposed to be an upgrade from 80gb hd to 120. When I received my confirmation e-mail I was not given the HD upgrade. I called and requested the upgrade I was told the order had been processed and could not be changed. I told them I wanted to cancel the order after talking to three different people I was told the order could not be canceled I told them I would send it back the day that it arrives at my home. I was then placed on hold and finally spoke to a nice lady ( no joke ) who said she would put in an order to cancel the purchase and I would have to wait 48 hrs, to know if the order can be canceled. Got my cancellation notice tonight. Also, was told I may have to wait a week for the funds to be put back in my account so I can order another computer. But, at least, I will not have to go thru the trouble of returning something I didn't want.
-
I called in yesterday for the price difference of 20% and 30%, they would give it to me, so I had to order another one and return the first one after it arrived.
Well, for $150, it worths to return.
hoping for fast refund though! -
triad95928 you are so lucky!!! I have called at least 5 times and i finally gave up, they will NOT refund me the difference, they said its impossible.
How many hours or days before had you placed your order? I think the problem with mine is that it was in production already, i ordered on the 8th.
Do you happen to have the name and ext of the person who helped you out?
Alex -
avillabon, I ordered on the 9th and called on the 11th. I'm a bit concerned though, I have no email conformation... I'm going to call when I get home and verify the additional 10% discount and the 30% is still working and she told me it was currently invalid. Perhaps I'm being fibbed to?
-
I hope that the 30% isn't invalid, because my laptop just shipped out today and I was going to return it to get the extra 10% off. I guess if they did get rid of the 30% I'll have my laptop for good when it comes in. I'm hoping it comes in on Friday, the sooner the better, as this will be the second one I returned to reorder a new one.
-
I called HP this morining and the rep told me that the 30% off is not valid but when I tried the coupon it still is working. I think I better give them a call.
I still am confused on the computation of the prices though. The same rep told me that the tax and recycling fee is not included in the price protection but I don't know. The thing is the rep included the 20% coupon on the original price (base price before tax) when I bought my laptop but then when I mentioned the 30% coupon she said that they can't apply it on the DV2500t CTO. -
The 30% isn't invalid because I ordered 2 separate notebooks using that coupon code over the phone. You can only apply the 30% coupon if your notebook configuration exceeds $999, not counting the instant rebate because the coupon removes any rebates - my rep kept trying to add stuff so that the price would exceed $999 but then he didn't realize that rebates didn't work with the coupon so I had to tell him that.
The coupon doesn't expire until 9/22, so I don't know why some of you guys were told that the 30% wouldn't work... -
-
today i called hp 3 or 4 times to see if one of the times i got lucky and they would give me the 30% instead of the 20% which is the one i used, but no luck.. But almost all the reps that i spoke with told me they were having problems with the 30% coupon. Their main concern was that when you place the coupon and go ahead and pay online it shows as if it were working but hours later or a day later hp has been calling these people to explain that the coupon is not valid anymore because it reached the limit way sooner then they expected. So even if it shows online when you are checking out it is not really working they will probably give you a call explaining you will pay full price... this was my experience from what they told me but i really hope for all of those that canceled and reordered that this is not the case and hopefully your transaction went fine. Anyway, let us know if this does happen to any of you... good luck but for now DONT cancel your orders or you'll miss out on both coupons..
Alex -
avillabon,
If HP's coupon worked online and I already ordered my laptop there is no way they can make you pay full price. It is a written agreement on the price when you finalize the order online. They can try and make you pay the full price, but if that happens someone could legally sue HP for false advertising because the coupon still is working online. If the coupon was really invalid because it has already been used the max number of times they should've corrected it on their website as well, because you ordering laptop online is just the same as if you bought anything else from a store and they come back after you purchase the item and say that even though they gave you the money off when you legally purchased the item you have to give the money back. I can't believe they told you that over the phone, what a bunch of #$@%. Nothing irritates me more than when people don't honor their word, and in this case their legally binding contract of purchase. -
just cancel the order... if it ships... refuse to receive it... they'll take it back...
and well... is the hassle worth the money... i mean how much money would you be saving... if it's under, say, 150$... i think i isn't worth the hassle -
hey envision, hopefully your order is fine but that is what they said, for some reason they are having technical problems with their site and the coupon so thats why they dont MAKE you pay full price but call giving you the option to see if you still want it... hopefully you will not get that nasty call from them, best of luck mate!

This is soooo awesome. :-|
I put off ordering till today... just convinced myself that this was the way to go.... and BAM.... coupon gone.
Was ready to buy my first laptop and everything...... Jesus H.
The only way I can see this as a positive is I can now look into getting the same config just with a GT and not GS...but hell......its going to cost AT LEAST $200 more. -
WHAT??? DAMN THIS SUCKS... guess im stuck with another try at dell..
-
Even though the 30% off coupon isn't good anymore, you still get a good deal with the 20% off coupon and it still comes out cheaper then Dell. Looks like I won't be getting a try at the 30% coupon because I haven't received my laptop yet and the coupon is no longer valid. Oh well, at least the bright side is I get to use my laptop sooner!
Anyways I received my 4GB of RAM in the mail yesterday and its taunting me to put it in my laptop as soon as I get it, lol!
-
The only reason I was going to get a laptop at this time was that coupon so I'm pretty pissed..a month ago I was intent on buying a laptop but the prices were killing me....... and I mean... now that I know that it was actually possible to get what I was going to get for the price and that HP has 30% off sales........ I'm not just going to get a laptop now.... not until another 30% off coupon comes around from HP or somebody or theres a sale that gives an equal deal.
-
just wanted to add that i was successful a few days ago in getting money back with coupon codes. but the coupons were both 20 percent off. Essentially the rep made a deal that i could get 80 bucks direct to my credit card, or 150 dollars for store credit. I chose the 150. Here's the catch though, I bought a battery (12 cell) with the 150. Then the hp rep refunded 150 dollars back to my credit card account. So I used funds from my credit card to buy the 12 cell. So then, I called back, got a different rep, and then got my order canceled. Which means that I got 150 dollars direct credit to my card, instead of 80! Money is still there after a a few business days, so looks like its mine to keep.
-
i dont get it... what did you do to get some money back?>
Alex -
there was a price drop, so got the difference plus more
-
price drop with or without coupon? did you get your money back within the 21 day window?
Alex -
its actually a 30 day window for the price drop. Price drop with and without coupon.
-
with coupon? are you sure? could you please provide a link to where you read this? i might be able to use it in my favor!!! thanks in advance
Alex -
You only get money back if it is a price drop on the laptop itself. You don't get money back if a better coupon comes out in the 30 days or anything like that.
Serious question about hp 30 day price dif. guarantee
