I have a HP laptop and I bring it to school almost everyday. There is a login password for my Windows XP. However, if someone steals my laptop. Is there a way that i could set a password to prevent anyone from installing another OS?

You can create a boot password ( i believe ); right after your laptop posts, it'll ask for a password and nothing can be done unless the password is entered correctly ( though i cant remember if the way i have it setup if for the motherboard or the hdd, i think its the hdd ). In you bios, you should have a security tab with an option that says something like password management.

Yeah.. even with a bios password you can reset the cmos jumpers, or pull the cmos battery and it will go back to default/factory settings and the bios password will be gone.
The OS password will still be there. The best technology for laptop theft at the moment is lojack, but it can be kinda pricey.
