I bought a dv6700se via the HP website. I placed my order on the 21st; the estimated shipping date I was given was the 31st. Of course on the 31st the laptop wasn't shipped and today I got an email saying: Due to product constraints of one or more components in your custom PC,
we will be unable to ship your order on the original estimated ship
date. The revised estimated ship date for your order is 2/14/2008. I was given the option to cancel.
Now, I used the $300 off coupon so I think I got a pretty good deal. Here's what I bought:
- HP Pavilion dv6700t Special Edition CTO
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Pprocessor T7250 (2.00 GHz, 2 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
- 15.4" WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
- FREE Upgrade to 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)!!
- Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 - For Core 2 Duo Processors
- HP Imprint Finish (Influx) + Fingerprint Reader + Webcam + Microphone
- Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 4965AGN Network Connection and Bluetooth(TM)
- 120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
- SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
- No TV Tuner w/remote control
- One 6 Cell and One 12 Cell Lithium Ion Batteries
- Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
- HP Wireless Laser Mini Mouse (White) and Mobile Stereo Headset (1 pair, White)
I also got a 2-year accidental protection plan and paid about $1300 for the whole thing. And now I don't know what to do. I already bought some accessories for it on ebay so I can't return them; if I choose to cancel the order, I'd have to sell what I already bought for less than what I paid, but then I don't know what should I get instead, and I think I'd have to pay much more anyway for similar features.
My first choice was a Vaio FZ but it is a bit more expensive, probably 200-300 more with less features, and I've been told that the battery is crap compared with the dv6700t's. I don't know much about laptops, but I don't think I have that many options considering my budget and my needs. The most important things for me are reliability and battery life, since I'd be replacing the desktop I use to work; I'm also planning on using this computer until pretty much it disintegrates.
What I should do? Should I wait or should I cancel the order, and if I cancel what can I get instead?
Thanks
Update:
So I called to cancel, I figured I could use the coupon RealtorKen mentioned and get a better configuration; an even though the email said "you may cancel your order and receive a prompt refund", I was told that the order can't be canceled, that I could receive a $90 refund for my troubles, but when I told the CR to insist, she talked to someone else and she said that they're gonna try but she doesn't think it's gonna happen. And... she said that even if my order doesn't get canceled, I wouldn't receive that $90 refund because they'd already given it a try. So now, I'm stuck. I can't order anything else because I'd have to wait for the refund first, but I don't know if it's gonna happen. The bastards!!

HP charges your credit card when you place your order, and it's my understanding that once you place your order, it can't be canceled. The good news is that HP has no-questions-asked 21-day return policy, and refund is processed about 2 days after you RMA your order via FedEx, before it even reaches their warehouse. And it takes about three additional days for the credit to be placed back in your account.
Ship Delay - What do I do now?
