Got a compaq V2000 - i was reinstalling the windows last night used the disk in the cdrom - found it was very noisy at times - like an old video tape rewinding and coming to the screeching end.

    Is this normal??

I don't think that is too normal your cd drive may be messed up I would call or email tech support and see what they recommend.

That isn't normal at all, you'd better get that checked out. Call HP support.
