Where are you buying that laptop from? Is it spec'd from HP's website?

If it were me I'd wait for a 30% off coupon code to come out and then order off HP's website. They usually release one of those codes around spring break. If nothing else you can get more options for the same money which will help with the longevity of use for your laptop. Buy the best laptop you can and expect it to last around 2 years or so before you will probably want to upgrade to bigger/faster.

Yeah, I paid $500 less for mine, with a slightly lower clocked processor and smaller hard drive.

^ i agree, if you can wait that long, definitely wait it out. i got a $2,300 unit in august 08 for about $1600... I saved $700 using a 30% off coupon and i got the highest spec'd machine i liked - without the bluray drive...

i have bought 11 dvd's my entire life, i dont plan on buying any bluray anytime soon ;-D

with the $700 i saved, i bought a surround sound speaker system, a huge external hard drive, a couple of usb flash drives, some software, a laptop case, and some other things im forgetting to brag about ;-P lolol... the point of my last sentence is that if you wait long enough, you'll walk away with a stellar deal.

I don't think you can buy the dv5t directly from HP anymore. Its better to buy directly being that you have 30 days to return it for a refund without restock fees etc.. Buying retail has more limitations where you have less time to return and it will cost you. About the only good reason to buy a dv5t at this point is if you can find one that has the WSXGA+ screen. With the newer dv6t I don't think you can get that hi resolution display anymore. As has been said wait for the coupon.. its an easy way to save hundreds on a custom to order system from HP. Also at this point you might as well wait a bit longer to try to get a system with windows seven or at least one that qualifies for a free upgrade to seven. I'm thinking MS will start offering free upgrades to windows seven on new systems sometime this summer. They don't have any choice being that consumers will quit buying systems in anticipation for seven. And yes, seven is enough of an upgrade that it would be worth waiting for. I know people are hoping that all vista owners will get a free upgrade but I highly doubt that M$ would ever do that.
