I heard windows 8 will come out early next year. I don't know if o should pay 1500 for a beats laptop, when I'm sure HP will come out with a new HP envy with windows 8. What do you guys think? Do you guys think upgrading from 7 to 8 will give me issues if I decide to buy it now and just upgrade OS when windows 8 comes out? Or is it better to have window 8 pre-installed by HP with new hardware?

If you can, it's always better to wait.

True. My policy when not in desperate need for a replacement has always been to decide (ahead of time) on what my strike price would be for any sale, and wait until that strike price or the new version of one of my "finalist" laptops comes out, whichever comes first.

Waiting is taking an awfully big risk though. I personally don't see Windows 8 sweeping the category for desktop OS and pushing Windows 7 out the door. Corporate is just starting to get Windows 7 out into the workplace and Windows XP is still holding on. Once corporate goes mostly Win7, they will want to sit on it for a few years to recoup costs before moving to a new platform (if they haven't moved to VDI by then).

I think it will be a couple years before Win8 pushes aside Win7 sales. You'll see Win8 in tablets for a year along with some new Win8 computer purchases before people "upgrade" existing desktops to Win8. Also, the Envy will most likely not be revamped until Ivy Bridge and even then it will probably take months before they are available (ala the SB release).

Then again, these are just my opinions and observations. Obviously waiting will always get you the latest and greatest, but it will be short-lived and outpaced quickly by new technology. Good luck.

If you are interested in gaming on this laptop, I would wait until the envy 14 is sold with 1600x900 display again. 1366x768 resolution is not acceptable for gaming IMO; it's also a bit limiting for working with design and CS apps.

You may want to consider some other laptop with either 1600x900 or 1920x1080 display and AMD 5850m, 6750m, NVIDIA 555m, 460m, 560m or better GPU.

I would've bought the 14.5" Envy if not for it's resolution, that was the only thing I had against it, if they release it in FHD, I'm all over it...

Yeah, IMHO that's the Envy 14's only weak spot; the lack of a higher definition display option. A 1080 screen would have been nice, but 900 is also acceptable on the 14" form factor. At one point I was going to buy two Envy's, but this stopped me from buying the 14" version.
