    hey guys

im kinda having trouble deciding between these two laptops

using HPs online configuration I can get them both to have relatively the same configuration for the exact same price

so the differences comes down to:

dv7tse is heavier at about 8 lbs vs dv6tse at 5 lbs
dv7tse will have 640 gb harddrive while dv6tse has 500 gb
    dv7tse has no backlit keyboard
    dv7tse has 1600 x 900 resolution vs dv6tse only has 13xx x 4xx something res
    dv7tse has a numberpad

dv6tse's forum thread seems pretty active compared to the dv7tse
how come everyone's buying the dv6tse? does weight and size make that much of a difference? and does the screen resolution not matter that much?

    Thanks for the help!

I just ordered my DV6TSE. I think a lot more people own this model because it's smaller, lighter, cheap, and makes for a great gaming laptop. It also has the brushed aluminum material. I would take a backlit keyboard over a number pad any day. There are some really good coupon deals going around for the DV6TSE. The only better thing about the DV7 is it might offer a better graphics card option than the ATI 5650, but I'm not sure on this.

Think about how much smaller gaming laptops will be in 2 yrs. Go with the DV6.

It's the size issue. A 15.6" can serve both as a portable laptop and as a desktop replacement, so it has better appeal. If you're basically only going to use your laptop at home, the dv7tse is the clear winner (other than the lack of a backlit keyboard).

The dv7tse is brushed aluminum, too. And no, it only has the 5470 and 5650 as graphics options.

DV7 is more confortable for the eyes. Now just depends your use and your preference.
Nowadays the price difference between 15" and 17" is not like in past when 17" were premium laptops.

For me, it really came down to the portability. The 15.6" is more portable and lighter to tote around.

As much as I'd love a larger screen and a numerical keypad, I just couldn't go with the 17.3" this time around.

I would not get any of them. the screens on the HP's are really bad, the keyboard is not great, spacing between keys are strange and the extra row of utility keys the have on the left side is sooo annoying. specially for gaming.

The DV7TSE doesn't have that extra row of keys.
