I really like the hardware and overall design of the Envy 15 and I would like to get it to replace my current Inspiron 1525. I fell into uncertainty as I constantly heard about people not liking the Envy calling it a Macbook Rip-off to people fussing about HP in general. I hear a lot of problems from their DV line but very little/none about the Envy which makes me think 2 things:
People are fed up with HP and won't buy the Envy/ Configure the DV models to similar specs and buy that instead or that there aren't as many reported issues with the Envy.
Nonetheless, Do you think that the Envy 15 would be a good 4+ year investment, or should I look towards something else?

You should definitely wait until the envy line refreshes with ivy bridge and kepler. If you buy an envy now you can forget about 4 years as it will be last years technology and outdated when it arrives.

Well that's the point I won't be getting it now, more around mid late Summer, hopefully It'll be updated by then because I'd really hate to wait longer. Also sorry for the double post my computer messed up ^^.

Honestly, the Envy series laptops are built very well, and should last you for the next years. While I've only had my envy 17 for about a month and a half, I can tell it's not going to break any time soon. It's powerful, even without the refresh.. and really, most people will not need that extra 15% power. I use mine for AutoCAD and it runs fine. People do not NEED Ivy Bridge. Sandy is just fine as it is.

Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
The Envy line has had its QC issues and engineering flaws, but the current Envy 15 is pretty good from what I hear (sans color reproduction issues). Some people, the more anal brand of customer, have big gripes with the Envy line, but among them are the kind of people who will return the same computer six times because there's a 0.5 mm gap between the chassis and the left side of the touchpad or the USB connectors are too tight or there's a 4 mm scratch on one of the speaker grills that can only be seen in the light of a full moon on the second Tuesday of a month that contained both a total solar eclipse and a visible meteor shower.
Generally, Envys are good, though. Of course, all machines are prone to potential breakdowns, and the Envy line is no exception, so you might want to consider a 3-4 year warranty if it's important for you to keep it for four years. -
I literally laughed out loud when I read that and its so true and, as said earlier, I would wait until the refresh. Not for the holy coveted Ivy chip, but for the upgraded gpu. The only disappointing part about my envy is the re branded 6750 card inside of it. Although I do have it posted on craigslist, I still really like it!

lol same reaction and same situation. cant wait for the new envy with new gfx... a fixed screen would be an extra bonus but i would still buy it even with the red-orange issue
Should I go for the Envy 15?
