    Classic answer ... It depends.

I generally am extremely cautious with BIOS updates, more aggressive with some drivers, and less with others.

You never want to install a new update as soon as its out since they sometimes wreak havoc. Asus and MS taught me this. In fact, just last week M$ sent out a .net patch that buggered PC's is several charming ways.

I see a Bios update now for my lappy but it fixes a few minor things so I'll wait for a few more updates. The fewer bios updates the better. Our utility company has a neat way of randonly turning off the juice for 30 seconds when its summer . A Bios update gone bad can be nasty to bounce back from.
Most of the other updates wont do anything noticable - at least on desktops its like that.

I go ahead and update anyways. I don't believe HP will release an update without extensive prodding. Yes some are minor but then again most will help.. updated drivers and such.

I have been leary of HP updates, but religiously implementing every MS windows update. I am not sure I am right, but for a while HP Update and Windows update both wanted to update my Nvidia drivers and I am happier with the one Microsoft was giving me. I do check the HP update and see if there is anything that addresses issues I am having.
