I was wondering, for my dv6500, should I buy the 12 cell battery over the 6 cell one? How long does each battery last approximately?

I don't own one but I understand 4+ hours with the 12cell, 2.5 or so with the 6. It pokes out the back of the laptop, which annoys some and doesn't bother others.

So if you plan to work unplugged for long periods I'd say definitely Yes. If you're plugged in most of the time no big deal.

Personally, I'd get the 12 cell, but I take a lot of long flights.

What's the difference between HP's standard and "high capacity" batteries (besides about $30!) ?

Have the 12 cell battery. Haven't drained it down to nothing, but it runs for a few hours very easily. Plus it makes for a nice carrying handle when moving the laptop. And when you place the laptop on a desk, the back is propped up so the fans can cool better. I say go for it.

The only reason you wouldn't get the 12 cell, is if you are moving a lot and the weight would bug you.

It has a higher milli-amps rating, that is why it is call high capacity

High Capacity lasts for an extra 30-45 minutes.
