I currently have a dv6700t which I bought early this year but it doesn't support the use of 2 monitors which I kinda need. The laptop works wonderfully and it's smooth enough for me (I use it mostly for work and that include several apps running at once: Office, several browsers, InDesign, Quark, other large applications). But since I chose the Intel video card, there's no HCMI support which would allow me to use 2 external monitors. I have to use a second monitor and my laptop's screen as a second monitor.

So I was thinking about selling my laptop and get a new one which would allow me to use the second ext. monitor. But there are a couple of things that make me think this might not be such a good idea:

    • My video card is an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 and it works fine. I read that the NVIDIA video cards cause some problems with HP laptops. Is this true?
    • I have a Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.50 GHz) but the dv5t processor options are much more expensive, so I'd have to get a 2.0GHz or a maybe a 2.26 GHz processor. Would this affect the laptop's performance? How bad?

Also, if I decide to go ahead and get a new laptop, should I get it right away or wait until HP releases a new model. If so, how long do you guys think that'll happen and if they'll be worth the wait?

Finally, has anybody found a way to use two external monitors with an Intel video card? Cause that's basically why I want to upgrade.

    Thanks.

There are many devices that will do this USB up to 6 external monitors

The intel x3100 im pretty sure supports 2 moniters. I have seen an intel GMA 950 do it so i would asume it does it. Plug in a screen into the VGA port then go to display settings and enable the second moniter. Display settings is the sae place where you can change resolutions at.
