Should I wait for a better deal, or pull the trigger on this one?

I can afford to hold off on a new laptop for another couple months or so, but I'm not sure how much better of a deal I can get on this notebook until then.

Does anyone know how often HP comes out with new coupons or different upgrades? Thanks :)

Looks like a pretty decent setup for the price. Insofar as coupons, I'd expect they will come up with some more for back to school (but who knows what they will be worth).

I'd say that'd be a pretty solid purchase. But generically speaking, the longer you can wait for buying any sort of technology, the cheaper it'll get.

If you're feeling gutsy, and since it's HP, then what you can do is make the order and, within 24 hours, follow up by calling HP pretending that you want to cancel it. They'll likely give you $90-$100 off extra just to try to keep your purchase (this worked twice for me, but for both of them I actually did want to cancel lol).

For what it's worth, I got that system with an i7, Blu-Ray, and a touch-screen for only about $100 more than that (came to $1024). Only thing it was missing from yours is that I went with 4gb of RAM instead of 6 to save money- that being one of the few things I could upgrade later.

The deals on that model since its release have pretty much alternated between Blu-Ray players and the bundle with 6gb RAM and the 640gb HDD. I wouldn't go for the 640 since it's a 5400RPM drive. A combination of waiting on that and getting a $250-off coupon worked in my favor, but there had been several times where I was very close to that deal as early as the end of June.

You may be able to get a better deal by waiting. If none of the features I got on mine interest you then by all means, go for it. Their sales on the DV series have been pretty consistent, though.

So I tried to place the order this morning, and it didn't work. Called HP and they told me that it would only work if it's configured over $1249 after the $150 instant rebate. What the hell!

Hmmm, they must change the coupon requirements randomly every time they come out.

Call them back and see if they will discount it any further, and you are undecided between this and a Dell Studio.

I would wait, Iv bought 5 notebooks from HP, and every notebook that I bought I got with a $500 off coupon. Now with the back to school season starting you could probably get a $500 off coupon if you check up every day or so. You probably wont get the notebook cheaper than the one you have configured now (around $1000) but with the $500 coupon you could get the i7 cpu and one or two more upgrades and the price would stay the same. So I would definitely wait.
