I'm going to be buying a laptop for college by the end of July or very early August. Should I get one then or wait even longer in the hopes that a new series will come out. Right now I'
m interested in the tx2z and the HDX 16. Do you all think those will be updated?

I don't know about the tx2z but the hdx16 was updated with new options about 2 months ago. They added the backlit keyboard, and the 130M gpu. Therefore, I don't think it will be updated any time soon. If you don't really need a laptop when school starts, you could wait and see later but I doubt they will update it.

Whenever you get a computer, be it now or in a few months, it will be outdated pretty quickly. Something new and better is always coming out.

With that in mind, do whatever makes you happy. I would suggest getting the computer a little while before you go to college, so that you can get it set up, get acquainted with it, and make sure that it is working.

    Hope this helps!

I've mentioned this before elsewhere, but I own an HDX18 and I would not get an HDX for college. Reason being, I would think you want basically 2 machines, ideally. 1 for class, small yet fully functional, with light weight and long battery life. 2 for the dorm, more like a desktop, bigger screen being the key ingredient at home, as long as the machine is powerful.

Get a 14" notebook with all the bells and whistles. Then buy a 22" or 24" LCD screen for the dorm. Goto class with your screamin little machine, nothing big and heavy. Get back to the dorm, plug in to the big monitor and you have essentially got yourself the best of both worlds.

As far as pricing, look for the rebates (here on the owners lounges) i've seen some of these clowns knocking hundreds off the price of some great machines, and yes the technology will get better and cheaper weekly, so just get in after doing your research, Make a smart purchase without being in a rush to buy. Enjoy. More study, less gaming. :)

The hdx16 is much smaller than the hdx18. Its only 1 inch wider than a traditional 15.4 inch laptop. Therefore, size isn't reaaly an issue. Look for the monthly 30% off hp coupons. Just google "hp coupons" around the 15th. It saved me $1000 off my maxed spec'ed hdx16.
