    Hello everyone,

I'm burning the 2.6 GB swsetup folder on DVD and it says it's going to be 3 hours. It's been going for a couple of hours already.

I don't burn enough DVDs to know if this is a normal amount of time to have to wait. Sure seems long, though.

I've got a DV9500T with the "LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support" drive, if that helps.

Its usually about 10 minutes to burn, plus another 10 minutes to verify the data so 20 min total as mntrryodriguez already stated. I go a step further and burn on the lightscribe disk which takes another 10-15 min but that's just for show.

What software are you using to burn the dvd? You sure you're using blank DVD's and not CDR? If nothing else try to reboot your pc and try again.

Hmm... this is a brand new laptop I just opened on Christmas.

Crazy. I also noticed earlier I put in a DVD movie just to see a movie on it and I got a notice that it didn't recognize my country. I'm in the U.S. and this DVD plays fine on a Dell, HP desktop and HP ZX5280 laptop.

Then QuickPlay crashed and the whole system wouldn't respond. Couldn't even get Task Manager to close QuickPlay at all.

I noticed the DVD burner is making a spin noise, every few seconds. I just chalked that up to it burning but it sounds like when you first start a DVD so now I'm wondering if something is wrong with the drive.

Reby - definitely using blank DVDs. They're DVD+RW. The computer recognized it right away. I even formatted it on the system to make sure it was blank before burning. Didn't have any trouble burning DVD+R recovery disks, though, so I'm stumped.

Just wanted to update and say I've now tried DVD+RW, -R and CD-R -- it's taking 16 minutes to burn a 154 MB file folder.

Are you using Roxio software to burn the DVD? Something is definitely not right with that system if its taking 16 minutes to burn 154mb. I just burned a DVD+R in 15 minutes with 4.1gb of data. Check your device manager to see if there are any conflicts. If nothing else works you may want to go into the device manager and delete the burner then reinstall it using the drivers in your swsetup directory.

If you're still not getting it working right you may need to return it or send it into HP for repair. :(

Nope, not using Roxio. Just a straight file copy. I think I'll return it. Last thing I want is to have to start dealing with repairs when I haven't even had this thing a week. Grr! Guess I'll have to start all over again and reconfigure another.

Sounds like Vista. There have been reports of slow copying on vista and vista is a dog on networks. I know its slower copying files from my XP box through the wifi to my vista dv6500t laptop. I would try Nero with the rewritables. This really sounds like an issue with vista. Copying and slow network performance is a huge bug in vista.

Personally, I like using Nero for DVD 5 stuff and IMG burn for the dual layer or DVD 9. Using Roxio or Microsoft for burning is just asking for disaster if you ask me.

Well no kidding gridtalker, please read the thread before telling him something we've already told him 3x. Good lord  dee dee dee (Google that gridyapper!)

rtrdogs - Did your pc come with Roxio? If so try it, that's what I use and I have not had any issues with it in XP or Vista. Just create a data dvd and it will ask you what you want to copy (add files or folders) and try to burn the dvd again. I assume you are letting windows try and burn it for ya which I've never had much luck with. Using Roxio I've burned more than 30 DVD's and I've only screwed up one blank DVD (nobody's perfect :D )
