I'm a proud new owner of a Dv5t. I've been using my TV at home to play some movies, and was wondering if there is a setting that would enable me to shut the lid when its plugged into the TV and not have it go into sleep mode ?

right click ur desktop. click properties. then click the screensaver tab. then click the Power button.
    Change "system standby" to never

    Edit:
Actually, thats to tell it to not sleep when idling...
In the power settings (see above) click advanced.
Change "when I close the lid on my computer" to "do nothing."
