    My Compaq Evo 800c Shuts down almost anytime I watch a video or play a game.I'm computer tech savvy and I'm running XPP.with 1 gig memory and 2gig CPU and 80 gig HDD.any thoughts?

    Its probably overheating since its an old notebook, fans are probably clogged with dust.

    Can you download HWmonitor and monitor the idle and load temps?

    Check your temperatures. After that, try using different programs with different videos. Could be a faulty program or codec.

    What was mentioned is probably on the money, you could also check if there are any updated drivers for your graphics, plus a bios update wouldn't hurt either if you haven't for a while.
    If you have an event viewer, it wouldn't hurt to see what's being logged at the time of the shut down.

    or, for the hell of it, make sure your media player of choice is patched to the most recent patches.
