I hope this hasn't been covered, I've been searching all afternoon and trying multiple things.

I was trying to get simplepass to work with Firefox this afternoon and tried reinstalling simplepass and thats what started the mess of my fingerprint reader not working.

    Reinstalled simplepass
    Uninstalled simplepass
    Installed digitalpersona
    Uninstalled digitalpersona
    Deleted fingerprint driver
Tried reinstalling both simplepass and digitalpersona again

Couldn't get it to work at all and still can't get it to work. Unfortunately I can't do a system restore back to before I messed it up as windows didn't create one back far enough from all the install/uninstalls I've done today.

Any links to the factory fingerprint driver and the factory simplepass?

    Any help would be great!

Um...could you tell us what didn't work? Simplepass didn't open? The fingerprint reader is not detected?

    Little bit of everything.

In device manager I see Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID=0018). It says it's working properly. Update driver does not find a more current update.

In control panel I see the biometric device, if I click "use your fingerprint with windows" I get a message saying it can not find c:\......\HP Simple Pass 2011\Splash.exe" and then it displays in the window "the selected fingerprint reader has no management application installed"

If I go to open HP SimplePass Identity Protection I get a message stating "Program operation error. Please restart the computer....(etc)."

I have searched on google and found downloads for simplepass but I can't get them to work. I don't know if the version is wrong or what.

If it matters, the LED for the fingerprint reader does blink.

Do you still have your recovery drive? Start up HP recovery manager and install SimplePass from there

Do you mean at initial boot where I press ESC? I don't have any options for individual program installs, just System Restore, 2 restore to default options and a system check program. Yes the factory recovery drive is still there, I never touched anything with that.

Hmm, I think my computer is a little messed up. I couldn't find it in my start menu but I found it in Program Files, but it won't launch (even tried safe mode).

I think I may need to do a clean install :/

If Simplepass is by DigitalPersona like the HP business laptops, it won't work with Firefox 4 or higher and DigitalPersona is abandoning the product. You might want to try the FingerFox add-in though. It is a bit confusing to configure but I played around with it yesterday and have it up and running for a few sites.

An update to SimplePass (version 5.3) was recently released. Specifically geared towards compatibility issues for Firefox users. My guess is that HP/Authentec didn't have Firefox in mind to begin with.
