So I got my new laptop
And I'm trying to use the fingerprint reader it comes with, but everytime I am almost done with setting one of the fingerprints in, it says, "Having trouble? Try again. Yes or no."
When I press yes, it does the same thing, when I press no, it exits.
I have uninstalled and installed it again.
Could this be because I'm downloading Starcraft 2 right now?
-
Nope ... it should not fail.
-
i got the same message the first few try but thats due me doing it wrong.
make sure you swipe it right in [ie: 4 of 5 tries]. -
Did you watch the little video that came with it? I remember thinking I knew how to swipe my finger, but after watching the video realized that I sadly was full of it.
Anyways, one month later, the finger swipe works pretty good. The only time I ever have problems is if I'm outside in the heat, come straight back in and have a bit of sweat on my finger. It never reads then. -
I had no trouble with mine at all. In fact, I was wary of using it because my last fingerprint reader experience was with an IBM R60 and it was BAAAAAD. Like, sometimes 20 swipes to get a good read. I never bothered with the one on my M1530 for that reason. But the HP one works swimmingly.

I did it the way the video taught me, but at the fifth correct stroke it gives me the error.

I believe there were updates to both the Validity driver and HP SimplePass software that were posted not so long ago. The dv6-61xx ships with SimplePass v5.1, which is the most recent, but the fingerprint reader should have an update for it. At any rate, if you did the update (and I do not know if there is a difference), where did you get it from? HP or Microsoft Update? Or if you have not updated yet, try doing so.

Worked 100% perfectly with all fingers right out of the box. well technically not right out of the box but you know what i mean.
Chances are you are swiping wrong. Take your finger and swipe it vertically over the fingerprint reader, making sure it sees your entire fingerprint. Make sure you swipe only your fingerprint, not your entire finger.
Great feature. Maybe one day we will see passwords disappear for fingerprint readers, cause they are just awesome -
Weird... I haven't ever had trouble with simplepass. Its always worked perfectly for me. But now, just today, simplepass isn't even coming up.
The white light that indicates I am using it no longer displays. Now it just doesnt read my finger at all...
Does anyone have any ideas? I think a restart may just fix it... -
It's working now...dunno why not before.
Thanks everyone! -
I had a little trouble too, but that's because you have to swipe your finger just right for the program to register it.
