I am waiting for the Skylake version of the HP Spectre x360 in the USA.

    Reading this: http://www.itpro.co.uk/laptops/25367/hp-skips-skylake-for-new-amd-laptop-chip
I wonder if they ever will bring it out.

I do not want to spend 1399 on the QHD version now as it is a quite old laptop now. I want the Skylake version but maybe have to look elsewhere. Lenovo Yoga 900. Toshiba Radius.

Any thoughts when the Skylake version might come? Any alternatives?

Make sure you compare identical models. There is only one Skylake model on the Best Buy website, and when I price an identical configuration on the HP website, HP is $20 cheaper ($979 vs. $999).

Best Buy does not yet have a Skylake QHD model with 512 GB SSD.

I haven't received it yet, but I got the shipping notification last night, it is expected to arrive next Wednesday. That's actually faster than the original shipping estimate of November 2nd.

I ordered a i5 with 8GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and the QHD screen, I guess they are in short supply.

I bought the 4195dx from Best Buy ($1,499.00); Skylake i7, QHD, 512GB. I have the Ash Silver (which is really like a chocolate color in-person). If you want this same model in silver, they have it for $70.00 less. Even though the site says one thing, you should call the stores in your area. What you see on the site as far as available dates, is often not 100% correct. My local store had a available date of 10/21/15. I called and they said they had one available. I went and got it a few days ago. I had silver Broadwell but this Ash Silver is amazing!!!

I had a chance to play with the Skylake Spectre x360 yesterday. I bought it as a gift for someone and won't be using it on a regular basis, but I handled the setup and migration of all the documents and settings from another laptop to the Spectre x360.

Having used a Spectre x360 with a Broadwell i5, the biggest difference for me was the QHD display -- the earlier x360 was equipped with a 1080p HD display. Sadly many applications still don't handle High DPI displays correctly (including Laplink's PCMover Express which I used to transfer the documents and settings of an old laptop to the Spectre x360), so spending the extra money for the upgraded display and then not being able to use it effectively is unfortunate.

I never heard the fan kick in, and had no problems with the CPU temperature either -- this was with a daytime high of about 75 degrees, and maybe 70 ambient . The touchpad and touchscreen worked well with no odd cursor jumps. There is some minor crapware from HP Support and I yanked the McAfee AV that came with it as well.

Overall it's a very solid machine, and I would consider one as my next personal laptop.

I received my Skylake i7, 1080 yesterday direct from HP (China).
So far I am very pleased with it.

It has the B&O audio label on the keyboard, but no enhanced audio settings that I can find. It is running Conexant Smart Audio HD. The sound is fine with no detectable issues yet. It does have dual volume controls once a headphone is plugged in.

I am not a power user so I know battery life and heat are not likely to be problems for me.
