The disc drive that came with my HP Pavilion dv2000t is the Slimtype DVD A DS8AZH NH61. I am also running Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit.
Anytime I try to play or rip a CD, I get clicking and whirring sounds of the drive. When ripping CDs, any of the following can and usually happens:
1. Disc drive clicks, rip fails... eject door, close door, rip flawlessly.
2. Disc drive will rip several tracks, drive clicks, rest of tracks fail to rip.
3. Disc drive clicks, several tracks fail, then rest of tracks will rip.
4. Disc drive will rip tracks, and speed gradually decreases to a halt/fail.
5. Disc drive will spin much faster than it should, resulting in a loud buzzing sound that sounds like a gas-powered leaf-blower, and then I push the eject button many times before it will open.
The odd thing is that the above mentioned always happens for the same CD every time. There are two specific discs that do #5. And I am not kidding when I say this, all my CDs are in mint-condition, so no scratches. One is from 1998 and the other from 2001 not that that should matter.
I recorded a 30 second sample of what I hear when loading a CD. You can download the clip (237kb) here (MegaUpload).
