I'm not to sure where to post this but I recenty purchased a dv8000t (see specs in sig)

Anyways, everything is working great, even the boot up to windows is pretty fast, but when I want to shut it down or do a fast restart, its take FOREVER. I'm not sure what the deal is, but it really takes minutes before it finally does it.

My computer will just sit there like its no even doing anything.
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to fix it?!

    any feedback would be great.

it could be come stupid bloatware thhat is causing your computer to shutdown slower. try removing them from >Start>Run>msconfig

Do a google search on the items you are not sure about and it should tell you what they do. I'm sure it's bloatware. When I got my DV4000 I did a clean reinstall of Windows first thing.

Once you get rid of what you don't want on there download this program and run it about once a week. It's free and I think it's great.

Yeah get ccleaner like Whale said. That really helps get rid of all that junk. Search google before you disable stuff though otherwise you might run into some problems.

when I run the msconfig and go to the startup tab, there is one startup program that isn't even labeled =/
Under Startup Item, there is a list of names like ccApp, QPService etc, and then one is just blank...

any ideas on what this could be?

There's a good post in the Dummies section in regards to bloatware that you might want to check out.

what else could I use? So far my only complaint with it is the slow shutdown, other than that my computer can handle it fine

You can try to make all the necessary updates/upgrades because I think Symantec fixed the problem with a patch. This is in case you like Norton
Otherwise, you can use AVG which is free and does the job quite well. Yet, a good firewall is more important than just an anti-virus software, IMO. Windows firewall together with Windows Defender (microsoft antispam software) are very good (and free) and should provide adequate protection.

I have a DV8000z and there was a BIOS update in the Driver section of HPs website that is relatively new and is meant to fix the exact problem you are describing.

You should be able to download it through the Total Care link they provide on your desktop.

    On the Firewall...

The "Windows" firewall while better than nothing allows apps to freely dial out.

Solution: ditch the windows firewall and find a copy of: Sygate-Personal-Firewall-Pro

    http://www.sygate.com/products/sygate-personal-firewall-pro.htm

I say "find a copy" since it appears "Symantec" has bought out Sysgate... and alas a great firewall is no more.... To be replaced by Symantec system intrusive apps. :(

I liked Sygate because it would BLOCK outgoing attempts, was fast, stable. They had a personal version which was free.
