I'm experiencing VERY slow USB transfer rates with my new DV6226US. Using two different audio management applications (J. River Media Center and WinAmp), transfer rates going to my 1st generation 1GB ipod Shuffle are only .7-.8MB per second. It typically takes **18 minutes** to send just less than 1GB of MP3 files to the device. My iPod Video is a little better - usually 1.2-1.5MB per second, but both are dismally slow for USB 2.0 devices. Is anyone else out there having similiar trouble? If so, any suggestions?

I have heard of issues like this with Vista and iPods. Apparently Apple has some sort of half-a$$ed patch available, maybe at iTunes or apple.com, however, it appears they are recomending that you not use your iPod with Vista untill the next software version is available for your iPod.

I am letting my kids load their iPod Nanos on my old XP Pro desktop, and I am not too sure what we will do if we vacation, since my lappy is Vista. Of course, I may run a dual boot on my lappy if Vista doesn't play nice with my DVD rippers and encoders.

Actually I think Apple's recommendation is to not use *iTunes* with Vista, and I'm not. I'm using two other apps that are Vista compatible, and it doesn't seem to be related to the software. If enable the Shuffle for disk use and just drag and drop files to it from Explorer I get the same slow transfer speed. It's very frustrating to wait 16-18 minutes for a silly 1GB of files to transfer over to a flash memory device.

The problems between iTunes and Vista have absolutely nothing to do with actual USB transfers, espicially when we're talking about other media applications like Winamp.

The problem is either a driver issue or a chipset issue. Let's not forget the issue with the Xpress 200 that HP used to use on the AMD-based DV5000 notebooks. Myself and others here had that, as well as many people around the internet. HP seems to not care about their customers and their need for TRUE USB2.0

dpippel, did you just buy your system? If you can, return it for a full refund. HP honestly doesn't care about their customers or build quality and this entire forum is a testament to it. Don't end up like many of us who have been screwed over and now have to deal with extended warranties because of poor build quality and bad chipset design and choices. If you need a Windows PC, there are other manufacturers out there who will get you a better system with better build quality that won't freak out and fry your USB devices not even a year after buying it like mine did.

I spoke with a friend of mine who is a tech today, and he said it was the software in the iPod itself, not iTunes. He said they reccomend not using your iPod at all with Vista, which made him mad because he just bought a Vista enabled Vaio, and a video iPod. He said his computer came to almost a dead stop and took 15 minutes to load simple audio files. That is when he started doing some research and found out.

However, with the other apps having issues, I don't know what to say about that. My lappy got delayed so I can't see if I suffer the same fate with my son's iPod and my wife's Sanza this weekend like I had hoped :(
