...and I have no idea what to do with them! Was going to throw them on eBay but not sure if I can even legally do that!
Found these when I was going through my latest PC load.
Two are HP and one is a Compaq. All three have similar labels on the bottom that say all the specs (in heavy detail) and "Property of HP - Prototype - Not for sale".
Two are missing the bottom covers, optical drives, hard drives, wifi cards, batteries, etc, but might not have ever had these things. The Compaq appears to be complete.
Neither HP powers on. The Compaq does POST but that's all I can get it to do.
The bottom of both HP laptops is made with very low grade plastic. Think beach toy quality. The Compaq appears normal... probably further along in testing!
All three laptops appear to be brand new except for external shelf wear.
Pictures here: prototypes pictures by aaron7 - Photobucket
The laptops are:
HP S Series, Turion 2.2
HP 6735b Turion 2.2
Compaq Project name 'Cheetah 3.0' (so cool!!)
My question is... how the heck did these get out? And do they usually? Are they worth anything? Can I even sell them?![]()

Those looks really neat. That last picture kind of resembles an early DV6000 series laptop. How did you acquire these?
-
They were recycled at a electronics scrap yard. I get lots of laptops there (buy them by the pound haha) and just HAD to have these!
-
HAHA..by the pound.
To think that what you have there was an incremental development for what we have now is simply amazing. -
Well, I'm tired of looking at these and ebay deleted my auction for them for some reason...
Anyone want some conversation pieces? haha -
I couldn't really imagine someone being able sell them. Those are like confidential pieces of company secret.
-
If they were their current line I could see that but these are old now!
-
I'd say part it out and see what you can get out of it. Hopefully the HDD are still in working condition, I'd use it as an external drive.
-
That's pretty cool.
It looks like you have a Compaq Presario v5000 there, and the successor to the HP Pavilion ze series. -
If you worked for, or were under contract with HP, then you could get sued for selling them, if not, and you didn't sign any non-disclosure agreement, then you can do anything you want, as long as you don't have reason to believe they are stolen.
Definitely don't part them out, they might have novelty value. Do you have any idea how much automotive prototypes are worth today? and General Motors scrapped thousands of them because they couldn't be sold as motor vehicles, and they didn't imagine them having collector value.
I'd pack them away, or donate them to a museum, the parts might not fit anything mainstream anyway.
If you ebay them, cross post them as collectibles, you never know, someone might really want them.
edit:
-
I'll keep you in mind if I can't figure out what to do with them
So I found these prototype laptops...
