I ordered a Compaq v2000z today with Turion ML-37, 80GB 5400RPM, 54G + Bluetooth, BrightView WXGA, 12-cell, and the higher level of x200M. I got 1GB of PC3200 RAM to go in it from NewEgg as well. After rebates, it all comes to about $1030 - a fantastic deal, it seems to me.

This is in the wake of offloading my AVERATEC 3270, which although very small, let me down performance-wise, especially for the programming and (light) gaming tasks I wanted it for.

I'm looking forward to this, the first HP I've purchased in 4 years...mainly because the last one was a piece of crap. I hope this isn't a repeat of that one, my first HP (a 1996 Pavillion with a Pentium 166MHz) was a great machine, and I've heard they've gotten back to that level.

    We'll see. Review forthcoming. :amd64-2:

That machine kinda perked my interest too...plus it seems like you got a pretty good price.

Looking forward to your review...good luck with your machine!

Yeah, Lowly, I've been pretty happy with my recent HP purchase, and my father has been using their massive business class machines too. It seems like they've finally worked out the problems with these consumer notebooks that were brought in from the Compaq merger....

    Lookin' forward to your review!

I think the deal really is a good one. Right now, HP's prices are going down probably in a bid to attract customers who wait for dual core laptops. V2000z is nice; I'm sure you've read Chinna's review (and a few others), so you know what to expect as far as performance and quality go. I'm sure you'll like it.
