...and it decided that it hates me.

I sneezed on my computer. Gross, I know, but it happens when people are sick and continue to use a computer anyway. I cleaned it up using a flashlight (to see the spots on the monitor), the included cleaning cloth I got with my computer, and a very soft rag with a minimal amount of water (which had been wrung out three times and did not drip when wrung out the fourth). There was no water seepage, so that isn't an issue. Of course, it was off when I cleaned it. The water left streaks, which amazes me since supposedly one can use LCD cleaner without getting streaks and I've been able to clean all of my other LCD panels with the same process and not get streaks (at the time, I didn't consider that there may be a major difference between the actual surface of a glossy and a matte - my other two are matte).

I tried buffing away the streaks, and was able to make it generally unnoticeable by breathing onto the cloth (to warm it) before buffing. But now there's more streaks in the display when it's off or when it's displaying black (such as the bars on the side and/or top when watching a DVD, depending on its aspect ratio). And guess what: I don't have accidental damage protection. :(

Note that by streaks I mean something akin to what happens to a mirror if you use cheap glass cleaner. This is not an issue with GPU or anything of that sort.

Is there any way to fix this?

Nice 'N Clean wipes? I use them for all my LCDs, my glasses, my keyboard. Alcohol Free. A few bucks at walmart.

Use either urine or Windex. Both have ammonia. Urine is easier to come by and you have an abundant source. Just fill up a cup with your liquid waste and BAM. Instant streak-free cleaner.
Just don't urinate directly onto the notebook. That can be fatal.

Surely he gets the urine joke, but aren't you just a little worried he will laugh at that and then grab the windex, which will destroy his screen?

You're playing a dangerous game, my friend.

Don't worry; I got the Windex joke. First thing I did before trying to clean it was read the info in the user guide... which said Windex (or 'glass cleaner', to be specific) is bad. It forgot to mention that water apparently isn't so swell to use either.
