Well... where to begin with this laptop. So much has been said by other individuals, failing videocard (8600m gs), poor dual screen support, vista, the list could never end if i listed everything.
This is not the primary reason for this thread, as my laptop has failed a total of 3 times... (twice from the graphics card failing, and now it just recently failed for an undiagnosable reason, it simply will not turn on, it will start to power on when introduced with a power source, by either plugging in the ac adapter, or putting in the battery, but then will simply switch off, Funny part is i haven't used it since receiving it back from the second "repair")
Well you would think i would finally be entitled to a replacement laptop after 3 failures...
OHO NO, YOU WOULD BE WRONG GOOD SIR!!!!!!
For christs sake, hp requires a consecutive 4 failures in order to replace a laptop (even though both they and i know it will fail again within the next year, thank god my warranty is within this time frame.)

Ok, ranting concluded, i have 2 key questions
    1. Will they replace the laptop with a newer model laptop (at this point i don't care if they replace my 1300 laptop with a 400 dollar netbook, i simply want a machine that will work, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!)
    2. I was thinking of causing another graphical failure, as i have a reliable desktop to use in the meantime (of course i made this myself.... really the only way i can be sure of quality and reliability anymore i guess...) Now i was thinking i could simply run ati tool while wrapping or covering the exhaust ports causing an eventual overheat/failure of this horrid gpu. I dont suppose they would figure out that i caused the failure, or that there would be noticeable signs of my rage... I dont even see this as fraud, as it WILLLLLLL HAPPEN, IT IS ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEEEEED!!, both hp and nvidia know this, but will never acknowledge it out of a fear of backlash...

Alright, that is all, and i must say that i will never buy or deal with hp again, just a warning to those out there. I know that they have repaired my laptop 3 times, and quickly too, but they know this laptop is destined for failure, simply prodding me along with repairs until my warranty is over with. Well no more, I have contemplated total destruction of this laptop many a time, but then i just calm down and remind myself it is a meaningless material possession that has no real bearing on my life, but i would still like it to work as designed. /sigh, over and out :(

Being myself already burned with dv9500t, I'd suggest to aim for a refund if it's still possible.

They will probably replace it. The Failing GPU isnt HP's fault, its nVidia just so you know. ;)

I have the notebook and have had only a few minor problems. which were quickly repaired by HP in 4 days and shipped back to me overnight.

Wow. Averatec had better customer support. I sent my lousy 5600 series (or something in the 5000's, the widescreen one(they only made one)) in 3 times and after the 3rd, when it did work well enough I guess, they sent me another one, so I had two. True the second was a refurb, but still! We returned mine to Sams club and gave the refurb to my brother... then I got an HP dv5000z... Lol...

I would try to run as many graphical intensive apps as possible at one time. Leave it plays AOE3, Bioshock, World in Conlfict etc. (all at once) for a period of time. That's not technically doing anything bad...

Oh! and do it on a bed so that it'd suffocate! :)

I know that it isn't HP's fault to begin with, meaning that they were not complicit in the eventual failure of the gpu, Nvidia knew that the failure rate was above average, but that does not take away from the fact that HP has shipped this product to consumers, meaning that in the end they are responsible for the product as is, including the defects that can be attributed and blamed on other companies.
It is also the poor cooling system used in this laptop that contributes to the failure.
Thank you lipiciu for that article, have you gone through those procedures with HP? I would rather not have to go through all that trouble, or could you maybe just spout off some of that information to a case manager in order to scare them a bit? I know that most customer service individuals really dont care about the consumer and simply want to resolve the situation with as little back lash as possible, so that might be a course i could take, iunno...

I would still like to know if someone has gotten this laptop replaced with a new model such as the DV7t, and how this has worked out for them, such as comparable specifications on the newer model, and a continuation of the previous warranty.

Ty for quick responses as well.

My dv9700t and a dv6500t i used both ran cool. Barely got hot even while gaming.

I think thier old cooling systems were better (with mine), because the new dv5 and dv7's they have heating issues. Unlike the old line.

Sorry about your problems man! You should def be entitled for replacement.
Were your repairs for free? I had to dish out much-needed money in order to get my GPU failure "fixed".
I doubt they fixed it... they just replaced the mobo with GPU, with what? Another one JUST LIKE IT that will fail as well. (probably)
    :(
Someone on here got free repair even though he was out of warranty because he showed the agent some links... I want to know what those links are but they never responded :(

My dv9500 gets so hot that I have to take a break from gaming. Atleast every hour.

When I had my DV 9763ca the laptop overheated very easily. HP has very mediocre cooling systems on their pavilion series notebooks

i just got a free repair on my 1 year and 3 month old dv2500 with a 8400, i have a thread about it here

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=320982

i have the links i used to force hp to repair it for free in there, they wanted to charge me 400 bucks. then when i asked for a case manager they wouldn't give me one, so i called back another day with my research and they caved.
