I bought a new battery for my compaq presario on ebay, and it worked when it arrived. (arrived at 50% charge). I did not know that the battery was not being charged while connected. The battery info appears on windows XP, but it shows the battery at 0% charge.

I thought it was a problem with the charger battery board that was broken, but it shows the battery info.

Is the charger battery board or the battery defective?

    thanks.

Oh, it had been charging for like 3 days with the computer off. The battery does not get a charge period.

This is an old ebay scam trick. Seller mails you a used dead battery (or even new dead battery) as new and working.

how old is this laptop? run hp battery check, or run everest to see what the battery might tell you about itself (mine tells me total capacity, charging ampage, and all the good stuff a smart battery tell you)

Is the blue charging light on when you're charging? It should turn off after 2-3 hours. Also you can see if the battery is charging and the capacity while using the laptop at the same time with the ac
