I'm wondering what cool/useful/must-have softwares are out there that I could have on my Envy 14.

Just list what you guys use or know about, and a brief description of what it does! Thanks!

Handbrake for Video Encoding. Now that I think about it, just check out the list of awesome Free Softwares for Windows thread in the Windows OS section of the forum.

Might as well throw on malware bytes anti-malware's free version and scan it every once in awhile to make sure you don't get anything nasty.

also, cccp or the k-lite codec pack for all your video watching needs (cccp is simpler to setup I think)

    Patches, lots of patches.

First thing you should do, preferably you have them off-line already and then add the notebook to the network after installing an A/V product. If not then run Windows Update. If you have to restart then run Windows Update again to make sure nothing is missed. You should also update all applications installed because they will probably be outdated and insecure.

You could try Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI) to help out on different software packages. PSI - Consumer - Products

For anti-malware iirc Microsoft Security Essentials gets an *amazing* 90% detection rate, way over the heads of everything else including nod32's supposedly super-advanced heuristics. Best part is, MSE is free if you have a legit copy of Windows ^^

What about CPU/GPU OC'ing progs? Havent heard anything about ClockGen, RivaTuner, NHC, MSI Afterburner. Only SetFSB has been talked about.

Someone please confirm which of these work for E14.
