Solution? DV5000/DV8000 keyboard problems - "filter keys"?!

I'm getting ready to pack up my DV5000 and decided to hop on Google while I watched 24. I started Googling and found out that other people had problems - especially with certain IBM ThinkPads.

I came across this long thread http://www.hyperorg.com/blogger/mtarchive/002052.html and it talked about Filter Keys. Sure enough I could replicate the shift key problem very easily. Press and hold the shift key for 8 seconds, and press escape when the window pops up asking if you want to turn Filter Keys on. You might have to do this a few times (I've gotten the problem to kick in after the first try or after up to seven or eight) but it should still replicate the problem.

That thread included instructions on how to permanently disable any Filter Keys shortcut. It seems like anybody (including users with desktops) can easily accidentally engage the Filter Keys feature and there could be no window that pops up. I remember reading in the LONG DV8000 thread that pressing the shift key again or both shift keys would relieve the problem..and that's exactly how to turn off filter keys.

I apologize if this is a false alarm as far as a solution but doesn't it sound all too familiar? Stuck keys, especialy shift? Rebooting will fix the problem usually? Apparently Filter Keys is just buggy as hell and for some really odd reason these series of HPs are prone to accidentally engaging that feature and/or bug where you wouldn't even know it's on.

I hope those with constant problems will be able to try this out and report back. This doesn't change the fact that the DV5000 keyboard isn't the best (keys not registering when pressed most importantly) but it sure sounds like a good fix. Don't ask me why I could make this Filter Keys glitch kick in after only two days of owning my HP when I've been using desktops and laptops with Windows for years and years without any problems.

I never really figured out what sticky keys was (FYI, if you tap Shift 5 times, it'll turn it on as well).
