I'm wanting to get a HP zv6000 series notebook. I've thought about getting the zv6005us from Circuit City, and I thought about ordering one from HPShopping. My questions is how much of a difference will the 5400 RPM hard drive make over the 4200 RPM? Will Circuit City take the notebook back if it has dead pixels? I'm worry most about getting a LCD with dead pixels.

Costco is about $200 more right now then HPShopping. Plus there isn't any Costco's close to me.

I think the 5400rpm will be noticeably faster than a 4200 in loading programs and general data access.

If you are really worried about LCD and want a no questions asked return policy, you should consider buying from Costco. They are configurable and usually slightly cheaper than HPshopping.

For $200 more, I wouldn't order from Costco - even though I love shopping at Costco.

Just to clarify, Costco does not have in-store configuration kiosks. You configure and order through costco.com and get delivery at home, so you need not be near a physical Costco store.

Hp has numerous benefits currently (direct) over others...Here's a copy of my post from other thread:

"Yep...these are hard to compete with:

    Hpshopping benefits:

-No hassle returns within 30days of ordering, for ANY reason, free Fedex pickup @ home shipped back to HP
-30 days price guarantee, if ANY sudden discount or promotion lowers the price of your config. they will refund the difference immediately (doesn't apply to new mail-in rebates, of course)

    PLUS...

    $200 instant savings
Free upgrade from 256 to 512 memory (2-256 Sodimms)
Free upgrade from Widescreen to Widescreen w/Brightview
    Free shipping
No sales tax (May not apply to all shoppers*)
And the usual $50 Mfr. rebate that all retailers have
Student discount of an avg. of 6% (off the price BEFORE all discounts/promotions/instantsavings)"

Are you asking specifically for the config. that CircuitCity & CompUSA have(zv6005us)?

    With the following:

    AMD Athlon64 3200+
    2x256mb DDR SDRAM
    4200RPM 80GB HD
    DVD+RW/CD+RW
    Integrated wireless w/speedbooster (no Bluetooth)
    ATI 200m 128MB DDR w/Hypermemory(upto total 256mb)
    15.4" Widescreen w/Brightview
    XP Home
    8cell

    $1024 NO TAX NO SHIPPING
    after MIR ($50)

That's Hpshopping.com compared with CompUSA's $1099 after MIR ($50) plus tax plus shipping (If when it's released on the site it's online only) & CircuitCity's $1049 after MIR ($100) plus tax (free shipping)

P.S. try calling HP & tell them you're a student at an accredited 2/4yr school in the US & give them a student# & the city, zip of your attending college (that's all..nothing more...no checking process)

Discount of 10% more (well it's actually 6%, but it gets taken off the price BEFORE $200savings,etc. so works out to be close to 10% off)

bluetooth is cool but everything that uses it is so expensive. it wouldn't be a bad idea just to get it since prices will drop in the near future. i just don't understand why i can't buy a mouse w/o the hub for less than $40!

I agree about prices, however, using the internet there's always bargains...I just purchased a bluetooth printer adapter for $26 no tax no shipping from Iogear through Buy.com(a fabulous site btw)
