I have a dv6000z I just posted a different thread on another problem I was having and now all of a sudden this problem has popped up as well.

Some of the keys, seems somewhat random, don't work, say about half of them. I unplugged the keyboard and plugged it back in and then some more keys, namely qwer started working. I did this again and now they are not working. Esc doesn't work along with backspace and many others.

The only thing I could think of doing was disconnecting the keyboard and reconnecting it. Any other suggestions.

It sounds like the keyboard went bad. You can purchase them through HP, do a google search, or check on ebay. The keyboards aren't that expensive and you can install it yourself, it takes less than 5 minutes.

Before you look at replacing the keyboard, try booting into DOS or something besides Windows and see if the keys work. I just have a feeling that it could possibly be something inside of Windows screwing the keyboard up.

Here is a link to the service manual for your laptop. You'll find all the instructions you need to replacing the keyboard:

Well the ESC button doesn't work in the BIOS menus so I don't think it's windows dependent.

I have a feeling it might just be the cable, where can I just buy a new cable, I am seeing the keyboard for like around 30 new on ebay.

I tried cleaning with qutip and water, eraser, and compressed air, nothing helps.

It seems that most regions are not working, with the area working the area in the middle of the keyboard.
