Ok guys I just knowticed after watching multiple videos on youtube and then looking at my laptop that my hp envy 14 beats edition is not shiny around the bottom half of the unit.. what I mean is that on multiple youtube videos many people have a shiny wrap around of chrome on the sides and front on the bottom portion of the notebook. Looking at mine it is just black like the rest of the computer is this normal??
-
-
They changed the design a little a while back
-
-
-
Or maybe they recently changed it. Did you order your Envy directly from HP, or did you order it from a store/refurb/somebody else?
-
-
Oh.
In that case, HP probably changed the design a little, possibly to make the beats look more uniform -
wow this is cool could you post pics please? I miss my old beats.....
-
If they only got rid of the Beats logos everywhere I would have bought that one.
-
-
Ok guys I will post pictures soon.
-
I was also wondering about the chrome and how it looks. black on the side would be cool though
-
Wth. Wrong place. Sorry.
-
That looks so much better IMHO. I never liked the chrome. It's hard to use chrome tastefully.
-
-
wow interesting, when did you buy this? (recently?)
edit: looks plasticy lol
edit2: talked to HP and they said the CTO model at the moment is chrome -
-
wow cool, is it metal all around?
My order is in the mail atm and checked with HP person about my order and she confirmed its chrome. -
-
yea I actually have no idea which would look better. not big fan of chrome but many people like it so I have to wait and see when mine comes in. and I would just call like you mentioned and ask for explanation on the model/design.
-
This is chrome:
This is aluminum:
-
from the videos I saw, looks like dark chrome. it might not necessarily be pure chrome; from your suggestions probably shiny unbrushed aluminum...
edit1: LOL at chrome picture and aluminum.. -
It's more then likely satin polished aluminum trim for the regular Envy.
And power coated aluminum trim for the Beats. -
-
actually I remember clearly that the HP lady said mine had the chrome around; not sure if she was referring to my question because I called it chrome or it was actual chrome around the notebook.
-
-
this is a cool video on the topic
YouTube - HP Envy 14 Beats Edition: ?????????? -
And OP, I don't know why you would get the idea your ENVY was built incorrectly. Pretty sure there is only one trim design for the ENVY 14 and you just got one with a different material/finish (one that matches with the laptop). My question is, is it the same material/texture the rest of the laptop is? They could have just decided to coat the aluminum like they did with the rest of the laptop. -

found the model info HP ENVY 14t-1200 CTO Beats Edition Notebook PC (XQ104AV)...........has anyone seen an envy like mine with the black finish yet?
-
Yes I have seen one like yours. The weird thing is, when HP released the 15.6 inch version of the envy, the generation before this one, it featured all black everything (in the words of jay-z). But clearly, yours is the 14.5 inch version.

The strange thing is, I can't find any images of this thing actually existing. -

-
Mine just came in, ill check if its shiny "powder coated aluminum" when I open it
-
It wouldn't be so strange for them to go back. The 15.6 variant had a lot of style things I like, the keyboard was all in lower case for instance. Also, back when voodoo was the one making the envy (which was availible in 20-30 colors if I remember right) the default model was all black. After HP bought them up, then ate their team and made the envy more affordable, well that would bring us to where we are today with the envy.
-
i can confirm ITS BLACK ALL AROUND. picked up today and looks awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
-
yup, just got mine too and BLACK ALL AROUND! and touchpad seems fine, though not up to mac's level... loving this laptop [:
-
good to know that mine is normal now lol

Lol i dont have a problem with the trackpad its pretty cool. and I think its because I usually tap to click anyways (others complan about clicking and moving mouse at same time) and the trackpad is perfect for that plus I made it so two-finger tap is right click.
-
With EAFD's trackpad guide i wouldn't change a thing. It's perfect. Not that it was just horrible to begin with but it does make a world of difference.
Something Very odd....
