HP ZE5570US P4 2.66, 60gig HDD, 512mb Ram, Broadcom wireless G, CDRW/DVD. Bought new in December 2003.
This pc was doomed from the git go. A month old and the Motherboard had to be replaced. I use to transport this notebook back & forth from my office once a week and I had to keep the restore CD in my computer bag since it has always had a problem starting up. I would get "operating system not found".![]()
Of course when HP was called........it's was kind of like having a dead battery in your car. HP just wanted to put some jumper cables on it so it would start and call it good when what they really needed to do was replace the battery. Then the HDD crashed in April 2005 so I finally gave up and bought a new notebook. I did finally send it off (warranty) and had the HDD replaced.
I still use this computer quite alot and I noticed the other day while driving over to a friends house, I had the computer running netstumbler and it crashed just sitting in the notebook bag from the vibration of the car ride.
This made alot of sense because it always crashed when turned on after a car ride or just being picked up and moved around. I sometimes have to slam it softly to get it to bootup.
Something's got to be loose inside, I just don't know what to look for when I open it up.
Any suggestions??
Thanks,
cup

I am little confused here, You are running the laptop in the laptop bag?
And about booting problems, most likely HDD problems and/or HDD connector loose or something like that. -
I was wardriving while getting from point A to point B, I took the notebook over to a friends house to show him the web site I made for his son (he was between ISP's) so I let it sniff for the ride over.
Also the left touch pad button has required a normal simple "press" to be a firm "press" since the last time HP had it to install the new HDD.
As for the HDD, I had checked it and it is secure, nothing loose on it.
Thanks for your help! -

One of the reasons you don't want to start up a computer in the car is because of the vibrations and bumps. If the hard drive is being access and you hit a bump it could cause the needle and plate to jump and scratch the platter.
As for the touchpad I have no clue.
Something got to be loose inside??
